Overview

The Cross River Rail Tunnel project in Brisbane required robust electrical infrastructure to support underground rail construction. Key components delivered included temporary power, engineering studies, metering stations, high-voltage switchgear, substations, and specialized cables for tunnel boring machines (TBMs) and construction equipment.

Objectives

  • Ensure continuous power for tunnel operations.
  • Design and install safe, efficient electrical systems for underground use.
  • Provide flexible power distribution to accommodate evolving project needs.

Key Deliverables

  • Temporary Power Solutions: Mobile generators and distribution panels provided initial power until permanent infrastructure was ready.
  • Engineering Studies: Detailed analysis of power loads and system design informed safe and efficient electrical solutions.
  • 11kV Metering Station: Installed to monitor grid power supply and ensure efficient distribution.
  • HV Switchgear: Integrated to protect circuits and allow safe isolation during maintenance.
  • Substations: 2MVA kiosk and 1.5MVA skid-based substations ensured flexible power distribution.
  • TBM Cable Supply: High-quality, durable cables supported TBMs in the tunnel.

Outcome

The electrical infrastructure enabled reliable and uninterrupted power supply for the project, ensuring smooth operation of the tunneling process and achieving safety and operational goals. The project was completed on time with minimal issues, and power systems performed effectively throughout the construction phase.
