JLE was engaged by Fulton Hogan for a Transport for NSW project as part of the Safe Roads Program to undertake a major overhead powerline network augmentation project between Narrabri and Moree, NSW. This project involved relocating powerlines to facilitate the widening of the road, ensuring the safety and efficiency of the upgraded transport route. Spanning over 35 kilometres, the project also included the installation of new infrastructure, augmentation and relocation of existing powerlines, and the installation of new streetlighting.
The project posed several unique challenges. The work had to be completed alongside the busy highway while maintaining access to local businesses and properties, especially in the towns along the route. This required careful coordination to minimise disruptions to the daily operations of these businesses and maintain traffic flow.
Secondly, access to the site was particularly difficult due to the nature of the surrounding terrain and the need to work close to the main highway. Our team implemented strict safety protocols and adapted to working in varying conditions, ensuring both the safety of our workers and the general public.
To overcome the challenges, JLE Electrical used its extensive experience in complex powerline and infrastructure projects. Our team worked closely with the client, local councils, and stakeholders to develop a clear plan that would minimise disruption and ensure the project’s successful completion.
The relocation of the powerlines was carried out with precision, ensuring the new positioning supported the road widening without causing delays. Additionally, we managed the installation of new powerline infrastructure and streetlighting, while carefully augmenting and relocating existing systems to ensure no power interruptions were experienced by the local community.
The project was completed on time and within budget, with minimal disruption to the local community. The upgraded infrastructure now ensures safer travel along the highway, with improved road width and enhanced lighting for better visibility at night. Local businesses were able to operate without major interruptions, thanks to our effective project management and communication.
