Overview

JLE Electrical was engaged to undertake the augmentation of the existing overhead powerline network to facilitate the widening of the road reserve along the Newell highway which sections past the Tomingley Gold Mine. This essential infrastructure project was designed to ensure continuous and safe power supply to the mine site while accommodating the necessary road upgrades for future expansion.

Scope of works

  • Overhead Powerline Augmentation: JLE Electrical carried out a 4-kilometer extension and upgrade of the existing powerline network, ensuring reliable power supply to the mine. Along with the new section of works 6-kilomtres of reconductoring was carried out on the existing network
  • Pole-Mounted Transformer Installation: A new 315kva pole-mounted transformer was installed to support the power requirements of the mine’s operations.
  • Recloser and Metering Unit: A recloser and metering unit were installed as part of the upgrade, providing enhanced system protection, efficiency, and the ability to monitor and manage power usage effectively.

Outcome

The project required meticulous planning and coordination to work within the constraints of road widening requirements while ensuring minimal disruption to the mine's operations. These complexities were managed by working closely with the client's operational requirement and utilising JLE’s experienced professionals and specialised equipment to complete the task safely and efficiently within the 6-month timeline. The successful installation of new equipment along with the augmentation and reconductoring of the network Enhanced the reliability of the power network, meeting both current and future energy demands of the Tomingley Gold Mine.
