Scope of works

Garde Services, in partnership with our cable partner Taihan, successfully delivered critical works on TransGrid’s Powering Sydney’s Future project following the award of the contract in the previous year. The project marked a significant investment in Sydney’s energy infrastructure, and Garde was proud to play a key role in its execution.

The Powering Sydney’s Future transmission cable project involved:

  • Construction of 330kV underground cables between TransGrid’s Rookwood Road substation at Potts Hill and the Beaconsfield West substation Alexandria, replacing aging underground cables which had reached the end of their serviceable life.
  • Upgrades to three substations at Potts Hill, Alexandria, and Picnic Point, to help meet the city’s future energy needs.

Garde’s scope of works on the 20km Powering Sydney’s Future Project included trenching, installing conduits, construction of joint bays and cable installation, along with underground drilling to cross rail corridors, waterways, and several major roads. Bridges were also constructed as part of the project to cross railways. Additional conduits were installed so there would be space for a second cable to be added in the future as demand increases.

Our experienced and multidisciplinary team including project managers, civil crews, traffic controllers, and community relations personnel worked collaboratively with local stakeholders to ensure the safe, timely, and minimally disruptive delivery of the project.

Upon completion, the Powering Sydney’s Future initiative reinforced the security and reliability of electricity supply for Sydney’s CBD and surrounding areas future-proofing the network for generations to come.
