Project Description:

The Regional Rail Project, led by CPB Contractors, was an ambitious initiative commissioned by the NSW Government and Transport of NSW. The project's goal was to replace the ageing NSW regional rail fleet with modern, bi-mode diesel-electric trains capable of running on both diesel and overhead power. A key component of this upgrade was the construction of a state-of-the-art maintenance facility in Dubbo, valued at approximately $725 million. This facility supports a fleet of 29 trains and includes an administrative building, maintenance shed, wheel lathe and train wash, bio wash, and stabling yards.

As part of the CIMIC Group, CPB Contractors entrusted JLE with essential components of the project, specifically the combined services reticulation and underground services. Our work involved supplying and installing underground conduits for high voltage, low voltage, communications, and rail signalling services. We also provided concrete precast pits for these services, conducted design adjustments using Navisworks, and surveyed all work to provide as-built documentation.

Project Stats

  • 19,000 linear meters of HD conduit installed
  • 7,581 linear meters of communications conduit installed
  • 242 precast concrete pits and lids installed
  • 9 tonnes: weight of the largest pit (2.5m x 2.5m)
  • 963 tonnes of stabilized sand
  • 6,260 tonnes of quarry products

This significant project showcased JLE's expertise in delivering complex electrical and civil solutions, ensuring that the new rail maintenance facility met the highest standards of safety and efficiency. We are proud of the role we played in this transformative initiative.
