Project Description:

The Snowy 2.0 project is a significant pumped hydro upgrade to the existing Snowy Hydro Scheme, aimed at bolstering the national energy grid.

JLE's scope of works included:

  • Underground Trenching & Cable Installation: Installed 75 km of 33kV & 22kV transmission lines and 45 km of fibre optic backbone networks across various sites.
  • Switchyard Installations: Constructed two switchyards, which included three containerised substations and four 16MVA power transformers to support a major section of buried transmission lines.
  • Diverse Installation Environments: The project involved temporary and permanent installations in diverse and challenging environments within the National Park. Various installation methodologies were employed, such as direct burying, surface mounting, and trenchless horizontal directional drilling for both electrical and communication systems.
  • Manufacturing and Installation:  JLE facilitated several other onsite projects, including the manufacturing and installation of multiple 22kV & 33kV electrical equipment for the surface and underground tunnelling systems.

This project highlights JLE's capability to deliver complex electrical and communication infrastructure in challenging environments, ensuring the reliable support of the national energy grid.
